Hearing Care Centre
A Hearing Care Centre was established by New Medical Centre to help address the challenge
of hearing disabilities. Attached to the Department of ENT at the NMC Hospital, the Centre
offers these services:PURE TONE AUDIOMETRY
This hearing test determines the type and degree of hearing loss. A state of the art
audiometer is used for routine auditory assessment.
IMMITANCE TESTING
An acoustic reflex test is performed to rule out any middle ear dysfunction.
HEARING AID TRIAL
Once the degree of hearing loss is determined, the patient tries out different styles of
hearing instruments to assess its suitability relating to function and cosmetic appeal.
REXTON HEARING AIDS
Rexton is a brand of Siemens Audiology Technik, Germany providing innovative and
intelligent solutions to improved hearing. The Hearing Care Centre offers a wide range of
Rexton hearing aids to satisfy a broad range of hearing needs.
- Behind the ear (BTE)
The instrument is kept behind the ear (auricle).
- In the ear (ITE)
This instrument has an obvious cosmetic appeal since it is totally invisible from the
outside. It is placed completely inside the ear and lies in the ear canal.
Both the BTE and ITE range varies from conventional to the latest digital models.
- Pocket Instruments
The hearing instrument is worn on the user body and is especially popular with the
elderly.
EAR MOULDS
Ear moulds for hearing instruments (silicone, soft, hard), water precaution and noise
protection moulds are available.
EVALUATION OF SPEECH AND
LANGUAGE DISORDERS
Speech disorders such as stuttering or the way sounds are formed; and language disorders
which refers to the inability to understand and/or use words in context , both verbally
and nonverbally are evaluated by the audiologist and speech pathologist at the Hearing
Care Centre and the appropriate therapy given.
